Educational and Trade Qualification
- Technical trades (e.g. Carpenter, Plumber, Electrician, Pump Operator, Upholsterer):
- 10th Pass + ITI of 2 years, or 1 year ITI + 1 year experience in the trade
- Semi/non-technical trades (e.g. Cobbler, Tailor, Barber, Sweeper, Khoji, Washerman, Water Carrier):
- 10th Pass + proficiency in trade, must clear trade test (preference if skilled in multiple)
- Cook, Waiter: 10th Pass + NSQF Level‑I certification in Food Production or Kitchen from NSDC‑approved institutes

Selection Process: Phase I & II
Phase I – Written Examination (Qualifying & Merit‑Based)
- Format: 100 objective questions (1 mark each) across four sections:
- General Awareness / Knowledge (25)
- Elementary Mathematics (25)
- Analytical Aptitude & Reasoning (25)
- English / Hindi Language (25)
- Duration: 2 hours (120 minutes)

Phase II – Physical & Other Stages (Qualifying Nature)
1. Physical Standards Test (PST)
- Height and chest measurements are checked at the outset.
- Failure to meet the minimum bar leads to elimination before further rounds.

2. Physical Efficiency Test (PET)
- A qualifying event (not scored) to test endurance:
- Male: 5 km race to be completed within 24 minutes
- Female: 1.6 km race in 8 minutes 30 seconds
3. Documentation (Document Verification)
- Candidates who pass PST and PET must present original documents and photocopies:
- Certificates: Date of Birth, Educational (10th, ITI/NSQF), Caste, Domicile, Experience (if applicable), ID proof, etc.
4. Trade Test (Qualifying)
- Applies only to semi‑/non‑technical trades (e.g., Cobbler, Tailor, Barber, Washerman, Sweeper, Khoji/Syce).
- Practical demonstration of trade skills (e.g. repairing shoes, stitching uniforms, etc.).
- Candidates applying for trades such as Cook, Waiter, or Water Carrier do not undergo trade test if eligible via certification (NSQF Level‑I or similar).
5. Detailed Medical Examination (DME)
- Final verification by BSF medical board to certify overall health, vision, hearing, and general fitness.
- Includes evaluation for tattoos, general physique, and any disqualifying medical conditions.
